April 98	Letter to the Stonewall Immigration Group (UK)

Dear Friends,

It is with a great pleasure that we announce to you the creation of a "Defense Group of Gays without  Papers", the futur title of the association we want to legalize will be probably different, but we will keep the aims and the general idea pictured by  the present name!

We would like to know more about your work concerning, since the creation of the Stonewall Immigration Group, the defense of the rights of gays without papers or living with gays without papers, the strategies you tried with more or less success to convince governements to change their policies about these questions.

We would like to see with you if any links, any sharing of experience could be good for you as for us: we believe that time has come to begin to join our forces all around Europe to  defend the similar aims that are ours, despite the differences from one country to an other to accentuate pressions and lobbying.

The french baby is very tiny but full of energy, and we wish to have news and good advice from the magnificent gay politics grownups you are.

A last word about our group: we created it with the support of the Gay and Lesbian Center of Paris, moreover, the Defense group of Lesbian and gay Rights; the support of Act Up Paris, and, to end, the Droits Devant (Rights Ahead) which is not specifically gay but very invested in the defence of the rights of people without papers, and which counts gays and lesbians in its staff.

Last of all, but very important, we wish to use the Gay Pride in Paris to focalize public attention about gays without papers. We need your help: the event will take place the 20th of june. We think that the mobilization will be difficult as it is not, as last year, a euro gay pride. The risk is that french government use this situation to point that gays don't feel concerned by the problem, or are satisfied, in fact, by the action of the government. We want to alarm all lesbians and gays all around Europe about this: it is, en fact, A S.O.S., a real case of emergency. The Minister of Interior accused recently "English trotskyst" to be responsible for the reactions in favour of "Sans-Papiers" during these last weeks. We would be really glad to have the support of english gays and lesbians during the french gay pride to show the governement there is a european gay solidarity about these issues. We are, of course, ready to participate to the english gay pride, in the same spirit.
