Annie & Yong

Annie & Yong

To whom reads our story,
Hello,
Annie and Yong we are a couple of a lesbian mixted nationality living in Paris for 5 years. How we met and lived during the period, we try to write simply as much we can write here and also about the group which supports gays, lesbians, and transsexuales immigrants who don’t have yet the resident card in France.

When I visited France by the first time with 15 young Koreans track tourists was on 2 July 1993 after the arrival from the Heathrow International airport in England the group had visited for 5 days in London. We splited separately in the Charles de Gaulle Roissy Airport deciding to follow individual itinerary until the redeparture for Korea on 3 August 1993. My itinerary was to discover and reveal the secret of the French latin culture which I could only have indirectly on books. So I decided to rest two weeks in Nice and the rest at Paris.

It was in a feminine bar on 22 July 1993 when I met my wife Annie who is a dentist. I could still remember vitally that evening. She was sitting just on the side of my table. Her face didn’t have any lifeness and seemed like preoccupied by something else. That probably attracted me to engage to talk to her. We started to throw some words in English then made the rendez-vous for visit some expositions and museums together. Also we went together to the discotek that weekend . Annie became someone very special for me in an extremly short time. After departure to Korea on 3 August 1993, we continually have written letters almost every day and telephone calls. One day of September Annie asked me whether I could come to live with her in France, and I gave her the positive answer by the evening calls. I couldn’t give her a favorable reponse right away because it was an important decision to make for the rest of life and also the reason of my occupation which recently I was hired by a trading company as an international commercial clerk, and the nature of job I’d like to domuch. At that period Annie and I each payed around $1 100 telephone bill per month. Becaused of the delay of the acceptance of the resignation letter I could leave Korea on 18 November 1993.

Understood  at that period that there are no favorable French law existed for an immigration of the etranger partner of couple of the same  sex, I boldly decided to come to France without any preparation because there was any possibility of my ex-employer to open a position as an office liaison in Paris and if I tried to  obtain a university student visa in Korea, it would have taken me one to two years just for the preparation for the French efficiency examination. And I can’t be a students forever.  Annie and I once thought about of opening a business here just to  obtain a regular statute, but I myself opposed that idea because it’s a suicide of an investment without any experience activity business and without studying any market stability in France. So we have decided to do nothing until the laws change favorable for a couple like us.

The appartement situated in 119 Manin Street where we’ve lived by the first time was a small but we built so many good memories which we couldn’t forget. Even now when we pass by the building we give a long look. I usually stayed at home doing the management of the house and kept the bookkeeping, went frequently to cinemas which we liked to do much, visited to expositions and museums, played tennis, promenaded to seek for new subjects to take photos, attended reguliarly to a health club to keep a regular waste size, and since last winter I started to take the Hapkido course, a Korean self-defense class against street attacker. Also, with parent’s Annie we went time to time vacances to north and south renting a pavilion.

Thanks to Annie’s gifted talents we didn’t have much problems of money to live two persons. However, whenever my family in Korea they asked me when I can come for vacances on Korea, I’d like to give them a certain answer. Also I’mgetting worry about my mother who graws daily aging. My eldest brother who married at late just got a baby boy, whom I’d like to see.And my middle sister, elder sister and my little brother, Song-Gu all I’d like to see. We often say each other when we can have the carte de séjour (a green card) the first thing we do is doing to vacances on Korea. Also we’d like to visit Canada and Greenland. If I have the permission to work, my job would be a receptionist in a dental clinic, but I also like to be a chef on a French restaurant which I’m going to look forward to become someday after finishing the school of a French cuisine. And in a case of an attack by a street boys which happened to me personnally recently, I’d like to claim the very equal protection of policiers. Plus I’d like to drive a car legaly.

The occasion that we could contact the group (Collectif de Soutien des Homos Sans Papiers) which supports the gays, lesbians and transsexuales immigrants who don’t have yet the resident card caused by the current discrimination laws contre a couple of the same sex in France was just after we came back from the vacances of May, through a magazine we subscribe called Magazine Lesbia. It was Annie who discovered the article written by Anne and Marine which introduced the existence of the group. We made a decision to have contact them and attended the meeting. At the meeting we could meet Lionel, the president, and many couples like us who are living under sufferings and difficulties and victimes of the actual French laws of the segregation and the discrimination between heteros and homos couples. We share the same causes and get a little bit of a moral compensation each other. Annie and I received many juridical consultations and aides on the preparation of documents which demanded for the application of the green card to submit to the department of police. For my apllication we are going to submit for the first time this begining of september. In case of the refuse, we are going to continually appeal to the administrative with the group support and its affiliated association ARDHIS (Association pour la Reconnaissance des Droits des personnes Homosexuelles et transsexuelles à l’Immigration et au Séjour).

Lastly, I’d like to appreciate Annie, my wife, who takes many risks to protect mewith a thick curtains of love. She always rides the subway with me to move around in the city. More then any other person, we know and understand well ourselves. As a human being who makes a life on this world, what we need more !The person like Annie she is right beside of me that makes me someone very important.
